Website Protection (iOS & Android)
How on-device website blocking works on iOS and Android, system permission setup, custom blocklist/allowlist rules, and troubleshooting.
1. Purpose & Privacy Boundaries
Switch to the Protection tab in the bottom navigation bar to configure Website Protection. This feature adds intentional friction before opening high-risk adult websites or custom domains you choose to restrict.
Privacy Guarantee: Domain matching and filtering happen 100% locally on your device on both iOS and Android. Transform never collects, stores, or uploads your browsing history or network traffic to any external server.
2. iOS Website Protection Setup & Parameters
On iOS (requires iOS 15.6 or later), Transform uses Apple’s native Safari Content Blocker and Screen Time APIs.
Setup Steps:
- Open iOS Settings → Safari → Extensions;
- Enable the Transform content blocker extension and allow permissions across websites;
- Return to the Protection tab in Transform, toggle on Website Protection, and complete Screen Time authorization if prompted.
Rule Parameters:
- Built-in High-Risk Rule Set: Automatically blocks common adult domains in Safari and system-managed web views.
- Custom Blocked Domains: Add specific domains (such as
video-portal.net) that act as personal triggers; subdomains are automatically covered.
3. Android Website Protection Setup & Parameters
On Android, Transform uses a Local DNS Loopback VPN service running strictly on your device to intercept DNS lookups for restricted domains without routing your internet traffic through any remote proxy server.
Setup Steps:
- Open the Protection tab and toggle on Website Protection;
- Review the local VPN permission explanation dialog and approve the system connection prompt;
- Once the status card shows Active with the locked shield icon, local filtering is running.
Rule Parameters:
- Built-in Filter List: Blocks known adult domains across standard and incognito browser tabs.
- Custom Blocklist: Add specific websites you want to block on your device.
- Custom Allowlist (Whitelist): If a normal website is inadvertently affected, add its domain to the Allowlist—allowlist rules take priority over built-in rules.
4. Troubleshooting Website Protection
- Some websites still load after enabling protection?
- iOS: Verify that the extension is enabled under Settings → Safari → Extensions, and clear your browser cache for previously visited pages;
- Android: Some browsers enable encrypted “Secure DNS” (DNS-over-HTTPS) by default, which bypasses local system DNS filtering. Open your browser’s privacy/security settings and turn off “Use Secure DNS” so local filtering can take effect.
- How do I pause or turn off protection?
- Simply toggle off Website Protection inside the Protection tab, or add a specific domain to your Allowlist.
