Cloud Sync vs. Manual Backup & Restore

Complete breakdown of iCloud / Google Drive automatic cloud sync, free manual encrypted backup files, and periodic export reminders.

1. Overview of the Three Data Safety Features

To protect both your local privacy and your long-term history when changing devices, Transform provides three distinct data features under Settings → Basic Settings:

FeatureAccess LevelPurpose & Best Use Case
Cloud Sync (iCloud / Google Drive)Automatic sync requires Pro; initial welcome restore is FreeContinuous, automatic two-way merging across devices on the same platform (iOS-to-iOS or Android-to-Android)
Backup & Restore (Export / Import File)100% FreeManually export an encrypted backup file for local safekeeping or cross-platform migration (iOS ↔ Android)
Export Reminder100% Free (inside Backup & Restore)Reminds you at a chosen day interval to export a backup file if you are not using automatic cloud sync

2. Automatic Cloud Sync (iCloud / Google Drive)

Parameters & Merge Rules:

  1. Where Your Data Lives:
    • iOS: Stored directly in your personal Apple ID’s private iCloud container;
    • Android: Stored directly in your personal Google account’s hidden Google Drive appDataFolder;
    • Data syncs directly between your device and Apple/Google cloud storage without passing through third-party servers.
  2. First-Time Merge Resolution:
    • If both your device and your cloud account already contain records when you turn on Cloud Sync, Transform prompts you to safely merge both sides.
  3. What Is Synced:
    • User profile, daily check-ins, daily task records, meditation/breathing/Kegel history, reflection journals, and settings;
    • Includes deletion tombstones so deleted journal entries do not reappear during two-way merges.
  4. Free Welcome Screen Restore:
    • On a new phone or fresh reinstall, tapping “Restore from iCloud” or “Restore from Google Drive” on the welcome screen is free for all users and merges your existing cloud data onto the device.

3. Manual Backup & Restore (Encrypted File)

Every user can export and import encrypted backup files for free at any time:

1. Exporting a Backup

  1. Go to Settings → Basic Settings → Backup & Restore and tap Export Backup;
  2. Transform packages all your records (including check-ins, journals, practice stats, and daily tasks) into an encrypted file and opens the system share sheet;
  3. Save the file to the Files app, send it to your computer, or store it in your personal cloud drive.

Note: The “Last Backup Time” only updates when you complete the share/save action—dismissing the share sheet does not count as a completed backup.

2. Importing a Backup (Additive & Non-Destructive)

  1. Tap Import Backup under Backup & Restore (or on the initial welcome screen) and select your backup file;
  2. Non-Destructive Merge Rule: Importing a backup file only fills in missing historical dates and records—it never deletes or overwrites newer records already on your device.

4. Periodic Export Reminders

  • How to Configure: Open Settings → Basic Settings → Backup & Restore, toggle on Export Reminder, and choose your preferred interval in days (off by default for new users).
  • Smart Silence with Cloud Sync: When Pro Cloud Sync is active, Transform automatically hides and silences manual export reminders since your data is already backed up continuously in the cloud.
